I never considered myself the type of author who would return to previous projects. Done and dusted, move on to the next thing. Sorted. Until I started thinking about filling the gap between now and my next novel with Vine Leaves Press in 2024!
“I know!” I thought, and possibly shouted out loud in a eureka-style moment. “I’ll publish a new short story collection.”
“Okay,” you say. “That’s looking forward, not backwards.”
And yes, normally I’d agree with you. Except, because there’s a new short story collection on the way I wanted to check out how much I could remember about formatting (which is actually quite a reasonable amount, thankfully), what better way to practice than to use a document which already exists. The new short story collection on the way is currently in pieces and some of it hasn’t been written yet.
And why, when you’ve gone to the trouble of formatting something – and accidentally found new cover inspiration for it – would you not actually put it out there for sale, again?
Admittedly, That Sadie Thing has been mostly on sale for the past 9 years, and maybe I should just let it go and work on the new short story collection on the way but there’s something about these stories I really don’t want to abandon. So it’s getting a new cover and another stab at a paperback version.
Well, you’ll just have to wait to see what comes next.
But, also, did I mention it? There’s a new short story collection on the way and I’m pretty excited about it 🥳
Sometimes its good to revisit things, the new cover looks very eye-catching. Good luck with the new short story collection 🙂

Hi Suzanne, hope everything’s good with you. It’s useful practise for the next collection, but as I’m putting so much work into it – because it’s kind of addictive – I thought I might as well update it. (PS. That’s not the cover, that’s me hiding the cover because it doesn’t actually exist yet😎)

Hi Annalisa – you’re keeping writing that’s the main thing – sadly – ?! there’s all the admin … so I’m glad the memory bank came back into play for the formatting. All the very best – cheers Hilary

Once I get into it, the admin and technical side of writing is quite fun. Like in every business, there are various tasks which all have equal standing.

Glad to hear you’re still writing!
I’ve gone away with the formatting, the first few times was enough and then Ipaid someone to do it. I then went to Calibre, and now I’ve Vellum, which works a treat.

I find it strangely compelling and therapeutic. But perhaps that’s because I don’t do it very often? But it was nice to have it checked and signed off.
